Associate Professor/Materials & Corrosion

Speaker Bio

Dr Ihsan ulhaq Toor is a metallurgist with more than 15 years of extensive industrial, research and teaching experience in the arears of material science/alloy development/corrosion control etc. He is currently working as an Associate Professor at Mechanical Engineering department of King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM). Currently he is also serving as an affiliate of “Interdisciplinary Research Center (IRC) for Advanced Materials” at KFUPM. Before joining KFUPM, he served as a senior research engineer in “Coating & Corrosion Research Center” of Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), South Korea. Dr. Ihsan’s research is mainly focused on developing new materials to overcome material degradation challenges in different industries. He is conducting in-situ/ex-situ investigations to understand the role of oxide films on metallic alloys in improving their degradation resistance in terms of their oxide structure, composition and stability. Some of his ongoing research activities include, “stainless steel alloy design & development; flow accelerated corrosion; hydrogen embrittlement” and “environmental induced cracking (EIC) etc. He has completed numerous industrial as well as national funded projects and has published more than 80 papers in top rated journals and international conferences. He has conducted numerous shorts courses on steel metallurgy, corrosion fundamentals, coatings, corrosion control for the industry. Dr. Ihsan is actively engaged with different professional societies such as AMPP, ECS, ISE, TMS. He served as technical committee member and session chair of different sessions in “Middle East corrosion Conference (MECC)”, “Jubail Corrosion Conference”, and “AMPP annual conference USA”. He has recently published a book “Recent Developments in Analytical Techniques for Corrosion Research.
